KUALA LUMPUR: After 35 years in the police force, Deputy Inspector-General of Police Tan Sri Ayob Khan Mydin Pitchay says he is not putting down his pen just yet.
With Sunday set to mark his final day in the force, Ayob Khan revealed that he plans to take a short break before embarking on a second, more detailed book documenting the counter-terrorism operations and other major cases he was involved in throughout his policing career.
"I will focus on taking a break first. After that, there will probably be another book that will be written in greater detail, particularly on the operations that I was involved in which can be shared with the public.
"Some of the materials will have to be declassified first before they can be included," he told reporters after the launch of his biography Dari Pendang Ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti on Thursday (July 23).
Ayob Khan said the forthcoming publication would include accounts of operations dating back to 1995, including counter-terrorism efforts and investigations involving international militant networks.
He said he decided to write not to elevate his personal profile, but to highlight the sacrifices and contributions of police officers, particularly those in the Special Branch, whose work often goes unnoticed.
"The public usually sees the police making arrests or conducting investigations, but they do not see the many covert operations carried out behind the scenes to protect the country," he said.
Earlier, Ayob Khan launched his biography, Dari Pendang Ke Bukit Aman: Jejak Integriti, which chronicles his journey from his humble upbringing in Pendang, Kedah, to becoming the nation's second-highest ranking police officer.
Ayob Khan said integrity had always been the guiding principle in every position he held, stressing that no organisation or leader could succeed without it.
"Without integrity, experience, qualifications, rank and even wealth mean nothing," he said, adding that he had never compromised when dealing with misconduct regardless of rank or position.
He said the book was intended as a reference for police personnel, students, young people, civil servants and members of the public who wished to better understand leadership, national security and the importance of integrity in public service.
