Woman dies in apartment fire in KL


KUALA LUMPUR: An Indonesian woman in her 50s was found dead following a fire at a house in Perumahan Awam Sri Terengganu on Thursday (Feb 6).

The victim was discovered in the bathroom of the residence.

Senior Operations Commander Fire Superintendent E Yogeswaran said the Kuala Lumpur Operations Centre received an emergency call regarding the incident at 12.38am.

"A total of 20 personnel and officers with engines from the Sentul Fire and Rescue Station, with assistance from Titiwangsa and Hang Tuah stations, rushed to the scene," he said in a statement on Thursday.

Firefighters were seen extinguishing the fire at the house in Perumahan Awam Sri Terengganu.

Upon arrival, the fire team found that the blaze involved a house on the 10th floor of the building.

"The fire was brought under control by 1.30am, with an estimated 90% of the property destroyed," Yogeswaran stated.

He added that the woman was found in the bathroom and was pronounced dead at the scene by the Malaysian Health Ministry.

"The body has been handed over to the police for further action. The cause of the fire is still under investigation," he added.
