Soldier claims trial to sexually assaulting eight-year-old


MELAKA: A soldier has claimed trial at the Sessions Court in Ayer Keroh here on Thursday (Feb 6) to two charges of sexually assaulting an eight-year-old girl.

In the first charge framed under Section 14(A) of the Sexual Offenses Against Children Act 2017, the accused had allegedly sexually assaulted the victim and can be jailed for up to 20 years and caned upon conviction.

For the second charge, under Section 377C of the Penal Code, the accused had allegedly committed carnal intercourse against the order of nature without consent.

The charge carries an imprisonment of between five and 20 years and whipping upon conviction.

Both the offences were allegedly committed at a home here at about 8.21am on Jan 30.

Deputy Public Prosecutor (DPP) Muhamad Ali Hussain proposed a bail of RM30,000 with conditions that the accused refrain from contacting the victim and report to the nearest police station once a month until the end of the case proceeding.

The accused was unrepresented.

The court later granted bail of RM20,000 and imposed the additional conditions proposed by DPP while fixing the next mention date on March 6.
