Flood safety measures: Sabah Electricity temporarily cuts power across affected regions

KOTA KINABALU: The electricity supply in many flood-affected areas must be temporarily suspended while safety observations are conducted in all impacted regions, says Sabah Electricity Sdn Bhd.

“At this moment, our technical team is on 24-hour standby duty to repair any faulty machines or utilities while mobile generator sets have been placed in affected areas,” its chief operations officer, Mohd Yusmanizam Mohd Yusof, said in a statement on Thursday (Jan 30).

“Electric towers that are flooded are forced to be shut down while repair works can only be done once waters have receded and it is confirmed safe to do so,” he said.

Yusmanizam noted that they had pinpointed flood-affected areas, including Telupid, Beluran, Kota Belud, Kota Marudu, Ranau and Lahad Datu.

He said Sabah Electricity has also opened flood operations rooms to monitor the situation and deploy officials to respond to emergencies involving electricity and safety.

“Customers affected by power outages due to floods are advised to contact Sabah Electricity at 15444, 088-515000 or Whatsapp to 019- 852 5427,” said Yusmanizam.
