CNY eve rush: Traffic smooth on major highways in the morning


KUALA LUMPUR: Traffic on major highways appears smooth as people gear up to head home on the eve of Chinese New Year.

As at 8.35am on Tuesday (Jan 28) checks on traffic cameras show traffic in the Klang Valley to be smooth flowing with no large numbers of vehicles detected.

Checks on the North-South Expressway heading from Kuala Lumpur to Penang seems to be normal.

The footage shows traffic heading to the northern region of the country from Sungai Buloh to Rawang, Slim River, Tapah and Juru to Seberang Jaya in Penang seems to be normal with less vehicles on the road.

Traffic from Sungai Dua in Penang to Sungai Petani, Kedah appears to be a smooth drive as well.

The exodus to hometowns was expected to pick up pace by Monday (Jan 27), with there being a last-minute rush on Tuesday (Jan 28) for those rushing to their hometowns for the reunion feast.

Drivers are advised to exercise caution as rainfall in many areas has made roads wet and slippery.

In conjunction with the festival, highway users will benefit from a 50% toll discount nationwide from Jan 27 until midnight on Jan 28.
