One arrested, 10 motorcycles seized in Penang traffic op


KEPALA BATAS: Police issued 111 summonses for various traffic offences during Ops Samseng Jalanan on the Butterworth Outer Ring Road (BORR) near Bagan Ajam here on Sunday (Jan 26).

North Seberang Perai OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Abd Rahman said police seized 10 motorcycles and arrested a 21-year-old man for riding recklessly.

"The motorcycles were seized for (illegal) modifications, having expired insurance or road tax," he said in a statement on Monday (Jan 27).

He said the operation began at 6.45pm led by the district police headquarters Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department, assisted by the Crime Prevention and Community Safety Division and Narcotics Criminal Investigation Department.

ACP Anuar said the operation was conducted on both sides of BORR and involved about 60 police officers and personnel from the district police headquarters.

He said 132 motorcyclists and pillion riders on 90 motorcycles were screened.

"Some of the motorcyclists behaved aggressively when we stopped them during the operation," he said.

He said all the motorcycles seized were brought to the district police headquarters to be documented and investigated further.
