SHAH ALAM: A husband and wife from Malaysia reportedly died after the superbike they were riding was involved in an accident in Chumphon, Thailand on Monday (Jan 27), Sinar Harian reports.

The Malay language daily reported that Mohd Sofi Ismail and his wife, Zaimima Ismail, both aged 43, died at the scene at 9am local time.

News of the deadly accident was shared by Muhammad Arashid Ramli, 39, a friend of the deceased couple.

Muhammad Arashid said he received the tragic news from a friend who was also part of the convoy to Thailand at around 10.30am.

He said the couple, along with four other friends, were on their way back from Thailand to Penang.

"The convoy group had been in Thailand for almost two weeks.

"At the time of the incident, the motorcycle ridden by the deceased skidded due to the slippery road caused by rain," he said on Monday.

According to him, the couple were confirmed dead at the scene and their bodies have been taken to Chumphon Hospital.

He said the four friends currently in Thailand are trying to arrange for the bodies to be returned home.

He added that the bodies are expected to reach the Malaysia-Thailand border on Tuesday (Jan 28) and the process of claiming the bodies is expected to take some time.

"The bodies will then be taken to Zaimima's family home in Merbau Pulas, Kedah, for burial arrangements," he said.
