Salon owner pleads not guilty to sexual assault


MELAKA: A hair salon owner and makeup artist pleaded not guilty to a charge of committing a sexual crime against an 18-year-old actor.

The accused, Saril Sarip, 42, entered his plea before Sessions Court judge Haderiah Siri yesterday.

According to the charge sheet, Saril allegedly committed carnal intercourse against the order of nature by forcefully performing a sexual act on the victim without consent, causing fear and distress.

The incident allegedly occurred at around 4.15pm on Jan 17 at the Saril’s hair salon in Taman Tasik Utama, Ayer Keroh.

The charge was framed under Section 377C of the Penal Code, which provides for imprisonment of between five and 20 years, along with whipping, upon conviction.

The court granted bail of RM5,000 with one surety and scheduled Feb 24 for the next mention of the case.
