Anwar emphasises commitment to good governance at Davos dialogue

PETALING JAYA: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim says that his government will prioritise good governance and democratic accountability.

The Prime Minister said these are the thrusts of his government's leadership, and leaders must set such examples.

"(Many) Countries are destroyed because of arrogance and corruption, and that is why, what I attempt to do in Malaysia is first to correct the issue of governance," said Anwar.

He said this during a special one-on-one exclusive dialogue with forum leadership, titled “A Conversation with Anwar Ibrahim”, moderated by World Economic Forum (WEF) founder and chairman of the board of trustees Prof Klaus Schwab, which was broadcast live from Davos on Wednesday (Jan 22)

"We inherited some issues and scandals of the past, so we have to be very rigid on that, which is challenging, particularly when corruption is deemed systemic.

"The tender process must be transparent, and there must be an effective anti-corruption commission with adequate legislation and powers, I think that should be a start.”

He also noted that it was important for leaders to have humility in their leadership.

“When we are given praises, we need the humility to acknowledge that we also have limitations," said Anwar.
