Comedian lodged report against Harith Iskander, confirm cops

KLUANG: Police have confirmed that a report was lodged by comedian Shahrol Shiro against fellow comedian Harith Iskander for allegedly making insensitive comments about Islam concerning the ham issue.

Kluang OCPD Asst Comm Bahrin Mohd Noh confirmed that Sharol, who is an Umno member, filed the report at the Kluang police station on Monday (Jan 20) at around 5.30pm.

"Checks found that it was related to a comment made by a user named Ccelia Yap Song KL," said ACP Sharol on Tuesday (Jan 21).

"The user left a comment that reads 'all names with Mohammad got to be renamed then' in a post made by Harith on his Facebook," he added.

ACP Bahrin added that the report has been referred to Iskandar Puteri police as a similar report was earlier lodged there.

He mentioned that the case is being investigated under Section 298 of the Penal Code, Section 505(c) of the same Act, and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

On Monday (Jan 20), mStar reported that Shahrol, also known as Shahrol Azizie Azmi, 41, filed a police report against Harith.

In the police report that was shared, Shahrol claimed that Harith's Facebook status had opened up a space for netizens to make comments that were considered mocking and insulting the purity of Islam.

"Harith Iskander and Ccelia Yap, police report on!" he said through a post on Instagram, where he also shared a photo of the police report made.

On Sunday (Jan 19), Shahrol expressed his displeasure with Harith's writing on Facebook, considering the joke excessive for using religious space as a material for mockery.

Following that, Shahrol indicated he would visit the police station soon to make a report.
