Chinese Embassy sole organiser of Spring Festival Gala 2025, UM only serving as location

KUALA LUMPUR: Universiti Malaya (UM) today clarified that it was not organising the Spring Festival Gala 2025 but was merely the location of the festivities.

The university added that the Chinese Embassy was the sole organiser of the event, which would be managed by several student associations of China nationals.

"Therefore, when the organiser planned to play its country’s national anthem, UM had asked them to also play Negaraku in line with provisions of the National Anthem Act 1968.

"As the oldest public university in the country, UM always maintains the sovereignty of the country by instilling patriotic values in all its students,” the university said on Tuesday (Jan 21).

UM also welcomed the government’s policy of internationalisation by welcoming and celebrating students. – Bernama
