Mother and son laid to rest after losing lives in Ulu Tiram fire


JOHOR BARU: Two of the three family members who perished in the early morning Ulu Tiram fire here have been laid to rest.

After a prayer ceremony, Ng Geok Choo, 63, and her son Lee Chiw Yong (sic), 30, were cremated at a memorial park in Ulu Tiram at 1pm on Sunday (Jan 19).

The funeral was attended by relatives and friends of both victims who were killed when flames engulfed their house in Jalan Limau Manis, Kampung Oren at 2.46am on Friday (Jan 17).

Ng’s 11-year-old granddaughter Chen Si Jing also perished in the fire.

The girl is expected to be cremated at the Johor Baru Tiong Hua Association crematorium on Monday (Jan 20) morning.

Si Jing’s brother Yu Rong, 12, suffered burn marks on his face and hands and is being treated at Hospital Sultan Ismail.

The blaze damaged about 80% of the house.
