KOTA BARU: The government has allocated RM2.5mil to provide dialysis facilities at selected mosques in Kelantan in collaboration with Yayasan Waqaf Malaysia (YWM) and Radicare.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said the initiative would improve access to treatment, particularly for rural kidney patients who have to travel long distances to receive dialysis.
He said using mosques as dialysis centres would also expand their role in serving local communities.
"We are working with Radicare to make dialysis facilities more accessible, particularly for villagers who have to travel far for treatment. We are using mosques as the base for these facilities," he said at the Sebarkan Salam@Kota Bharu Berselawat programme at the grounds of Masjid Muhammadi here Saturday (Oct 31) night.
Also present were Minister in the Prime Minister's Department (Religious Affairs) Dr Zulkifli Hasan, his deputy Marhamah Rosli and Kelantan Mentri Besar Datuk Mohd Nassuruddin Daud.
Anwar said another RM645,000 had been allocated through YWM for water waqf projects and solar installations at selected mosques in Kelantan facing shortages of basic amenities.
He also announced a special allocation of RM500,000 for maintenance and upgrading works, including hostel facilities, at Sekolah Menengah Ugama Darul Ulum Al-Muhammadiyyah in Padang Kolam here. - Bernama
