MUAR: A mother and her daughter have been arrested for allegedly obstructing a Muar Municipal Council (MPM) enforcement officer during a stray dog-catching operation in Bukit Pasir here.
Muar police chief Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz Azman Aziz said the two local women, aged 52 and 24, were arrested at their home in Bukit Pasir on Thursday (Oct 29).
He said the incident was believed to have occurred at about 5.45am on the same day when a team of MPM enforcement officers was conducting an integrated operation to catch stray dogs at Taman Bintang Emas.
"During the operation, the two women allegedly questioned the enforcement officers' actions, obstructed them from carrying out their duties and attempted to release a dog that was being caught.
"The situation subsequently escalated into a scuffle when a female enforcement officer attempted to intervene," he said here on Saturday night (Oct 31).
Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz said the 45-year-old enforcement officer sustained bruises to both her right and left arms following a medical examination.
He added that following a police report, both women were arrested at their residence to assist in investigations.
Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz said both suspects tested negative for drugs and were under remand to facilitate further investigations under Section 186 of the Penal Code for obstructing a public servant and Section 353 of the same Act for using criminal force to deter a public servant from discharging her duty.
He added that police were continuing investigations by recording statements from witnesses and gathering additional information.
Asst Comm Raiz Mukhliz also advised the public to cooperate with the authorities during enforcement operations and refrain from actions that could obstruct public servants from carrying out their duties.
