Religious council to bear sisters’ funeral costs after Tambun accident


IPOH: The Perak Islamic Religious and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) will bear the funeral costs for two sisters who died in a road accident near Taman Perpaduan Ria, Tambun here on Friday (Oct 2).

MAIPk chief executive officer Syamsul Hazeman Md Salleh said that the council would also assist their surviving sister, who was hospitalised due to serious injuries from the crash.

“The MAIPk will bear the funeral management costs for the two siblings who died, while other forms of assistance for the seriously injured sibling will follow.

"MAIPk provides funeral management assistance to families who are unable to afford such expenses as well as for the deceased with no next of kin," he said.

The two victims - Elyana Nasuha Ibrahim, 19 and her younger sister Suhaila Ibrahim, 10 - were killed at about 7.20am on Friday.

Their 12-year-old sister Norhayati Qaliesha Ibrahim, who was riding pillion with her sisters, is being treated at Raja Permaisuri Bainun Hospital for her injuries.

The victims were headed towards Bercham on a motorcycle before being hit by a car that was turning out from a junction onto Jalan Perpaduan.

The police are investigating the crash under Section 41(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

The two sisters were pupils of SK Tasek Dermawan and were orphans living with their older sister in Taman Perpaduan.

Following the tragedy, a donation drive has been launched through the school’s Parent-Teacher Association (PTA) to help ease the family’s financial burden.
