All suraus in Perak registered with MAIPk will open from Friday (July 10)


IPOH: All suraus that are registered with the Perak Islamic Religion and Malay Customs Council (MAIPk) are now allowed to hold Friday prayers starting from Friday (July 10), says MAIPk chief executive officer Shahrul Azam Shaari.

He said that this included suraus at education institutes, army camps, police barracks, state departments and offices, adding that Sultan of Perak Sultan Nazrin Muizzuddin Shah has consented on the matter after consulting with the state Fatwa Committee.

“Prayers must be held according to the standard operating procedure (SOP), and based on the capacity of the premises and all praying must observe a 1m social distance, ” he said in a statement on Wednesday (July 8).

He said only Malaysians are allowed to attend the Friday prayers at mosques and suraus.

“Those attending will have their identities checked, recorded and temperatures taken beforehand and additional prayers such as Qabliah and Ba’diah prayers, wirid and religious lectures between Maghrib and Isyak prayer must be completed within 30mins and according to the SOP, ” he said.

He said the state Islamic Religious Department will come up with the terms and criteria as well as guidelines for suraus to conduct the Friday prayers.

“We will also provide a list of suraus who have met our criteria to perform Friday prayer during this recovery movement conditional order period, ” he said.
