Tawau man arrested for raping teenage neighbour

KOTA KINABALU: A man suspected of raping his 13-year-old neighbour has been arrested at his home in Tawau.

The 30-year-old suspect was detained at 7.50pm Thursday (Jan 16) after the victim lodged a police report, accompanied by her grandmother.

Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin said the incident came to light when the grandmother suspected something amiss.

“The victim’s grandmother realised her granddaughter was behaving unusually.

"When questioned, the victim told her she had been assaulted by the suspect three times over the past two months.

“They then went to the nearest police station to file a report on Wednesday (Jan 15),” he said in a statement on Friday (Jan 17).

The suspect was then arrested and placed under remand for investigation under Section 376(1) of the Penal Code for rape, he added.
