Factory fire in Perai industrial area sends smoke visible from Penang Island


BUTTERWORTH: A factory in the Perai industrial area caught fire on Friday (Jan 17), sending thick plumes of smoke visible even from Penang Island.

The incident reportedly occurred around 4pm while factory operators were on duty.

All operators and personnel have been safely evacuated.

Firefighters from the state Fire and Rescue Department have been deployed to the site, with volunteer fire squads also assisting in the operation.

As of time of writing, firefighting efforts are still ongoing.
