Skeletal remains found in Lahad Datu housing estate drain

KOTA KINABALU: Residents of a housing estate in Lahad Datu were shocked to find human skeletal remains in their drain.

Lahad Datu deputy OCPD Supt Jimmy Panyau said the remains were found in a drain at Bukit Taman Pertama 1 area at about 10.53am on Wednesday (June 24) by residents who immediately called police.

Supt Jimmy said the skeletal remains were then taken by the Forensic team to Lahad Datu Hospital for further examination on the cause of death as well as to determine the identity.

“At this stage, the case has been classified as sudden death pending further investigation,” he said in a media statement Thursday (June 25).

He urged those with missing family members or who had information related to the discovery to come forward to assist in the investigation.

They could contact the nearest police station or contact the Deputy Chief of Lahad Datu police station, Sergeant-Major Ronney Lajius, at 010-4641071.

Supt Jimmy urged the people not to make any speculation on social media that could disrupt the investigation and to respect the sensitivities of the victim’s family.
