Two relief centres in Kota Tinggi close as floodwaters recede

JOHOR BARU: Two temporary relief centres (PPS) in Kota Tinggi have been closed as floodwaters gradually recede in the district.

The Johor Disaster Management Committee said that as of 12pm on Wednesday (January 15), 10 PPS remain operational in four flood-affected districts; Kluang, Kota Tinggi, Johor Baru, and Pontian.

"Villagers from Kampung Gembut and Kampung Gembioh have been allowed to return home at 9am, leading to the closure of the SK Gembut and SJKC Mawai PPS.

"As of noon, there are still 850 victims from 247 families being sheltered at 10 operating PPS," it said in a statement.

Meanwhile, the Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning about continuous rainfall in Johor from January 17 until January 19.

"Continuous rain is expected to affect Kluang, Mersing, Pontian, Kulai, Kota Tinggi, and Johor Baru from Friday until Sunday," it said.
