Thunderstorm warning issued for multiple Malaysian states


PETALING JAYA: A thunderstorm warning has been issued for several states in Malaysia, with heavy rain and strong winds expected.

The Meteorological Department released the warning at 1pm on Wednesday (Jan 15).

In Kedah, the areas of Sik, Baling, Kulim and Bandar Baharu are expected to be affected.

Pulau Pinang is also under the thunderstorm warning.

Regions in Perak, including Kerian, Larut, Matang Dan Selama, Hulu Perak and Kuala Kangsar, are on alert.

In Kelantan, thunderstorms are anticipated in Tumpat, Pasir Mas, Kota Bharu, Jeli, Tanah Merah, Bachok, Machang, Pasir Puteh and Kuala Krai.

Terengganu areas such as Besut, Setiu, Kuala Nerus, Hulu Terengganu, Kuala Terengganu, Marang and Dungun are expected to face severe weather.

In Sarawak, Bintulu (Bintulu and Sebauh), Miri (Subis, Beluru, Miri and Marudi) and Limbang (Limbang) are forecasted to experience thunderstorms.

In Sabah, the West Coast (Ranau), Sandakan (Beluran) and Kudat (Pitas and Kudat) are under warning until 6pm on Wednesday.

This alert is issued when signs indicate thunderstorms with rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour, either imminent or expected to last more than an hour.

This short-term warning is valid for up to six hours from issuance.
