PETALING JAYA: The Malaysian Meteorological Department (MetMalaysia) has issued a warning of thunderstorms and heavy rain for six states, effective until 5pm on Sunday (April 26).

In Pahang, the affected area is Rompin.

The warning covers several districts in Negri Sembilan, namely Kuala Pilah, Rembau, Jempol and Tampin.

Residents across the entire states of Melaka and Johor are advised to prepare for severe weather conditions.

In Sarawak, the alert includes Sri Aman, Sarikei (Sarikei and Meradong), Sibu (Sibu) and Mukah (Tanjung Manis, Daro, Matu and Dalat).

For Sabah, the affected regions include Pedalaman (Nabawan), Tawau (Tawau, Semporna and Lahad Datu) and Sandakan (Kinabatangan).

MetMalaysia issues these warnings when there are signs indicating a thunderstorm with a rainfall intensity exceeding 20mm per hour that is imminent or expected to occur for more than one hour.

A thunderstorm warning is a short-term warning that is valid for a period not exceeding six hours for any single release.

The notice was officially issued by the department at 2.20pm on Sunday.
