Cops nab four Myanmar nationals for operating unlicensed entertainment centre in Skudai


ISKANDAR PUTERI: Four Myanmar nationals were arrested for operating an unlicensed entertainment centre at Taman Bestari Jaya, Skudai, here.

Iskandar Puteri OCPD Asst Comm M. Kumarasan stated that the arrest took place at 11pm on Jan 6 during a raid.

"The raid led to the arrest of two men and two women, aged between 24 and 30.

"Preliminary investigations revealed that none of the suspects had prior criminal records, and initial urine screenings returned negative for drug use.

"During the raid, the police confiscated various items used in the entertainment centre's operations, including a television, a speaker, an amplifier, a microphone receiver, two wireless microphones, a WiFi modem, and a tablet," he said.

He made these statements during a press conference at the Iskandar Puteri District Police Headquarters on Monday (Jan 13).

ACP Kumarasan added that authorities also seized RM220 in cash, along with 28 cartons and 15 cans of alcoholic beverages of various brands. The estimated value of the confiscated alcohol amounted to RM11,000.

All suspects are being investigated under several legal provisions: Section 135(1)(d) of the Customs Act 1967 for possessing prohibited imported goods, Section 6(1)(c) of the Immigration Act 1959/63 for entering and staying in Malaysia without valid documentation.

They are also being investigated under Section 39(b) of the Immigration Regulations 1959/63 for breaching conditions of their immigration passes or permits and Section 6(2) of the Johor Entertainment and Entertainment Places Enactment 1998 for operating an entertainment centre without a valid licence.

He added that the group has been active for the past two months, targeting only Myanmar nationals as their customers. All suspects are currently under remand from Jan 7 until Jan 20.
