Teacher accused of molesting pupils in Melaka haunted house

MELAKA: A spooky adventure in a "haunted house" turned traumatic for two Primary Six pupils after they were allegedly molested by a 43-year-old male teacher.

State acting police chief Senior Asst Comm Datuk Md Nazri Zawawi said the two schoolgirls emerged crying and shaken after being invited to the haunted house, set up for a school carnival on Wednesday (Jan 8).

"The two victims were invited into the haunted house by the suspect to experience the eerie atmosphere during a dry run. He allegedly caressed both their private parts and chests," he said on Thursday (Jan 9).

SAC Md Nazri said the school carnival was scheduled for Friday (Jan 11), and the suspect had invited the girls into the haunted house before the event.

The two terrified victims quickly ran to the headmistress's office after their traumatic experience at 10am on Wednesday.

"The victims began crying and shivering when narrating their ordeals to the headmistress. Several teachers were called to the office to comfort them," he said.

SAC Nazri said both victims told the headmistress that a "huge hand" had sexually abused them from the back inside the haunted house.

The 53-year-old headmistress summoned the suspect to her office and questioned him about the incident. He denied the allegations and accused the victims of lying.

SAC Nazri said the headmistress contacted the parents of both victims before lodging a report at 12.48pm at Tanjung Minyak police station on Wednesday.

He added that the suspect has been remanded until January 14 to assist in the investigation under Section 14(a) of the Sexual Offences Against Children Act 2017, which provides for a maximum sentence of 20 years in prison and caning for each offence upon conviction.

"The suspect tested positive for drugs during screening," he added.
