Police await toxicology report on concertgoers’ deaths


SHAH ALAM: Police have recorded statements from 15 individuals, including family members and friends of the four people who died after attending a New Year’s Eve concert in Bandar Sunway, Subang Jaya.

Selangor police chief Comm Datuk Hussein Omar Khan, when contacted by Bernama, said the police are now awaiting the autopsy and toxicology reports to determine the cause of death of the four victims.

Preliminary investigations suggest that those who died may have consumed ecstasy.

Based on information from Universiti Malaya Medical Centre, he said two other concertgoers who exhibited symptoms similar to those of the deceased have regained consciousness but remain in a weakened state.

Earlier, the concert organisers issued a statement emphasising that the safety of attendees and other stakeholders was their highest priority.

The management stated that precautionary measures had been implemented for the event, including having more than 100 police personnel present as well as deploying security personnel and K9 units at entry points.

They also gave an assurance that they would full cooperate with the police in its investigation.
