Delivering joy to first-time parents

Moment of many firsts: KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital obstetrician and gynecologist Dr S. Deepa handing a swaddled Muhd Hayyin to Mohammed Fazurul.

JOHOR BARU: A couple here ushered in the new year with the birth of their first child ahead of their wedding anniversary next month.

Airline chef Mohammed Fazurul Rahman, 30, and his 29-year-old wife Nur Atila Abd Rahman welcomed their 3.3kg bundle of joy on the first day of 2025, marking the start of their lives as parents.

Mohammed Fazurul said the baby’s delivery was brought forward to avoid risking its health, upon the doctor’s advice.

The due date was originally set for Jan 4.

“My wife and I chose Jan 1 for her C-section delivery as it is the beginning of the new year. We welcomed our newborn son to the world at 10.10am and he weighs 3.3kg.

“We are thankful that her delivery went smoothly,” he said.

The proud new parents have named their first-born Muhd Hayyin, meaning “to ease”, in the hope that he will grow up to be an upstanding person.

“I think my father was the most excited among us as my son became his 20th grandchild,” Mohammed Fazurul said when interviewed at KPJ Puteri Specialist Hospital here yesterday.

He added that he and his wife got married in February last year and the birth of their first child would be a meaningful anniversary present for them.

Another pair of first-time parents, Chu Chung Ng, 35, and Tan Ying Qi, 36, also welcomed their baby yesterday, at 8.50am.

Tan, an accountant, said she was ecstatic when she held her infant son in her arms for the first time.

Tan, too, was advised by her doctor to move her C-section delivery date earlier from the original Jan 15.

“My husband and I chose the auspicious first day of the new year and we hope it will be an advantage for our child to enrol in school earlier in the future,” she said.
