PAS Youth rally invitation a political stunt, says PM's aide

PETALING JAYA: Muhammad Kamil Abdul Munim, the political secretary to the Prime Minister, has declined an invitation from PAS Youth to participate in their Friday (Jan 3) rally protesting alleged threats to Muslim harmony.

Kamil, who is also the PKR deputy youth chief, described the planned protest as a cheap political stunt.

"Thank you but no, thanks. There is nothing at risk. This is once again an attempt to impose a culture of fear among Malays, another populist attempt to gain cheap political support by stirring racial and religious sentiment," he wrote on X on Wednesday (Jan 1).

Kamil emphasized that the rights of Muslims should be upheld through tangible efforts to improve the well-being of the people.

"The rights of Muslims must be upheld by elevating the dignity and standard of living of the people, strengthening the economy, fostering community unity, fighting corruption, and promoting social justice," he said.

He urged PAS Youth to adopt a more responsible approach and avoid actions that could harm the nation’s social fabric.

"PAS Youth needs to be more mature and responsible. Don’t destroy the social fabric of this country with the fire of racial and narrow religious sentiments. This is not part of any religious demand," he added.

On Tuesday (Dec 31), PAS Youth deputy chief Hafez Sabri extended an invitation to the youth wings of Umno, PKR, and Amanah to join a protest set to take place at Masjid Jamek after Friday prayers.

According to Hafez, the rally aims to defend Muslim rights and protest against two DAP leaders, Housing and Local Government Minister Nga Kor Ming, as well as Youth and Sports Minister Hannah Yeoh.

Earlier this week, non-Muslim PAS supporters lodged a police report against Nga following his comments about a Christmas celebration organised by his ministry.

PAS’ ally Bersatu had also lodged multiple reports against Yeoh, accusing her of promoting Christianity in Malaysia.

Amanah Youth chief Hasbie Muda recently suggested that PAS Youth show magnanimity by engaging with the two DAP ministers to gain a better understanding of the controversies surrounding them.

PKR Youth secretary Omar Mokhtar A Manap also rejected PAS’ invitation, describing it as "merely a political gimmick."
