Cops nab 21 in Johor for traffic offences during 'Ops Ambang Tahun Baru 2025'


JOHOR BARU: A total of 21 individuals were arrested during a special traffic enforcement operation dubbed "Ops Ambang Tahun Baru 2025" here.

Johor Police Chief Comm Datuk M. Kumar stated that the operation was conducted from 11pm on Dec 31 until 5am on Jan 1.

"The operation, carried out by the Johor Contingent Traffic Investigation and Enforcement Department (JSPT), targeted several hotspot locations across the state.

"As a result of the operation, 21 individuals aged between 18 and 53 were detained," he said in a statement.

Comm Kumar added that all detainees were Malaysian nationals.

"Nine individuals were arrested for drunk driving under Section 45A(1) of the Road Transport Act 1987.

"11 were arrested for reckless driving or road hooliganism under Section 42(1) of the same Act.

"One individual was arrested for drug-related offences under Section 15(1)(a) of the Dangerous Drugs Act 1952," he added.

In addition to the arrests, the police confiscated 72 vehicles and issued 451 traffic summonses for various offences during the operation.

Comm Kumar reiterated that Johor Police will not compromise with individuals who deliberately violate traffic laws, endangering themselves and others on the road.

He emphasised that road safety is a serious matter and called on all parties to take responsibility for adhering to traffic rules and regulations.
