JOHOR BARU: Six men were arrested for drunk driving during a roadblock at KM11 Jalan Johor Baru-Kota Tinggi and KM21 Pasir Gudang Highway, here.
Johor Baru South OCPD Asst Comm Raub Selamat said the operation was conducted in line with the Chinese New Year celebration under 'Ops Ambang Tahun Baru Cina 2022'.
He added that the operation that started at 8pm on Friday (Jan 31), had also managed to inspect 97 vehicles and 126 individuals.
"A total of 63 officers and policemen were involved in the operation.
"We have also conducted surveillance near the housing areas to monitor any firework activities aside from ensuring that there were no housebreak crimes occurring and illegal entertainment centres operating," he said in a statement on Tuesday (Feb 1).
He also informed that a total of 46 summonses were also issued during the roadblock for various road offences.
"Those who have been arrested were brought over to the police station for documentation process and investigation," he added.
The case is investigated under Section 45A(1) Road Transport Act (Amendment) 2020 for driving under the influence of alcohol, which carries a jail term of up to two years, a maximum fine of RM30,000 and revocation of driving licences for two years or more.
Repeat offenders will faced jail time of not more than five years, a fine of between RM20,000 and RM50,000, and a licence disqualification of five years or more.
