Cops screen 830 vehicles, issue 36 summonses during NY Eve op in Mersing


MERSING: More than 800 vehicles were screened and 36 summonses issued by police for various offences during a New Year Eve operation at Jalan Jemaluang here.

Mersing OCPD Supt Abdul Razak Abdullah Sani said Ops Ambang Tahun Baru was conducted from 8pm on Sunday (Dec 31) until 4am on Monday (Jan 1).

“A total of 630 individuals and 830 vehicles were screened during the operation.

“We issued a total of 36 summonses to 36 individuals for various offences,” he said in a statement on Monday.

Supt Abdul Razak added that a motorcycle was also confiscated during the operation under Section 60 of the Road Transport Act 1987 for illegal modifications.

“The operations were conducted to ensure that the public is aware of the presence of law enforcement, (and) ensuring that no criminal activities are conducted in the district,” he added.
