Drunk driver in Tawau crashes car into bank

KOTA KINABALU: A drunk driver crashed his car into a bank’s glass door and damaged several automated teller machines (ATMs) in an accident at Jalan Mahkamah in the east coast town of Tawau.

According to Tawau OCPD Asst Comm Jasmin Hussin, the 25-year-old is believed to have lost control of his vehicle before ramming it into the front door of the RHB Bank at about 5.15am yesterday.

ACP Jasmin said the glass door, which is the front door of the bank branch, and several of the bank’s ATMs were damaged.

No serious injuries were reported.

The driver, he said, was heading from Tawau town towards his house in Tanjung Batu.

“Our investigation found that he did not have a driving licence and was under the influence of alcohol,” ACP Jasmin added.

The driver has been detained to assist in investigations.
