Floods: Barrier breach in Saujana Utama affected 200 houses, says Bomba

PETALING JAYA: Around 200 homes are thought to have been affected after a flood barrier adjoining Taman Sri Alam in Saujana Utama broke and overflowed into the residential area on Sunday (Dec 29) afternoon.

Bestari Jaya Fire and Rescue Station chief Azrel Izaidi Ahamad said that the floodwater had now receded and discussions are ongoing to determine if there was a need to relocate the affected residents.

"The water has receded, only one low-lying alley is still flooded, and it will take a while for it to fully recede.

"Consequently, the Fire and Rescue Department will be carrying out water suction work in the area.

"We're still assessing the need to relocate residents as the situation now shows signs of improvement.

"However, the process of identifying damage might take some time. We'll provide updates periodically,” he told Bernama on Sunday (Dec 29).

Selangor Fire and Rescue assistant director (operations)

Ahmad Mukhlis Mokhtar had earlier reported that there were no injuries or fatalities in the incident.

He said that the Saujana Utama Volunteer Fire Brigade received an emergency call at 5.15pm and dispatched five officers and members to the scene.

Upon arrival, they found the water level in the affected residential area to be one foot high. – Bernama
