Eight, including three-year-old, injured in Mersing trailer-MPV crash


MERSING: Eight individuals, including a three-year-old boy, sustained injuries in an accident involving a multipurpose vehicle (MPV) and a trailer lorry on Jalan Mersing Nitar-Felda Nitar 1, here.

Mersing Fire and Rescue Department operations commander Shamsuri Shafai said the department received an emergency call about the incident at 3.01pm on Saturday (Dec 28).

“Upon receiving the call, an operational response team (PKO) comprising one Light Fire Rescue Tender (LFRT) vehicle, a four-wheel-drive vehicle, and 13 personnel from the Mersing Fire and Rescue Station was dispatched to the scene.

“Upon arriving at the location at 3.21pm, the team found that the accident involved an MPV and a trailer lorry,” he said in a statement.

Shamsuri added that the team proceeded to rescue all eight individuals in the MPV, including the driver who was trapped, using rescue equipment.

The victims are aged between three and 39 years old.

The lorry driver, a 36-year-old man, was unharmed while the injured victims were handed over to the ambulance team for transportation to the hospital for further treatment.

The operation concluded at 3.48pm.
