Stay out of Sg Kelantan disaster area, cops remind public

KOTA BARU: The police are reminding the public to stay away from the collapsed portion of the Sungai Kelantan riverbank, which has been declared a disaster area.

Kelantan police chief Datuk Mohd Yusoff Mamat said some people continue to visit the area near a condominium and hotel on Jalan Post Office Lama here without valid reason.

He urged the public to follow instructions and avoid the area due to the high risk of accidents.

He said despite a yellow tape cordoning off the area, some are ignoring the warnings and continue to enter the area.

"The authorities will not be held responsible for any accidents that may occur," he told Bernama on Wednesday (Dec 18).

Checks showed individuals disregarding authorities' instructions, freely entering and exiting the danger zone, with some even creating content for social media without any regard for their own safety.

Last Monday, a 50m-stretch of riverbank along Sungai Kelantan collapsed, along with a pedestrian pathway. – Bernama
