KUALA LUMPUR: The government has agreed to increase financial assistance for disaster victims to repair their homes from RM5,000 to RM10,000.
Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim said when tabling Budget 2027, themed "Reaching for the Sky, Rooted in the Ground", in the Dewan Rakyat on Friday (Oct 9) that the government has allocated RM260mil to the National Disaster Management Agency (Nadma) for next year.
He said a total of 17 amphibious craft would be acquired to expedite rescue operations by the Civil Defence Force.
" The GLC For Rakyat and Nation (GDRN) initiative, led by GLIC (government-linked investment companies) and GLC (government-linked companies) foundations, continues to step up its efforts to assist disaster victims through a RM20 million matching grant," he said on Friday (Oct 9)
Anwar, who is also Finance Minister, said the government had completed six Flood Mitigation Plan (RTB) projects worth RM336mil.
He said 82 RTB projects are on schedule, while new projects planned for 2027 include the Kuching City RTB, Phase Two of the Sungai Golok Integrated River Basin (PLSB) project in Kelantan and the Sungai Kemaman PLSB in Terengganu.
He said nearly RM320mil has been allocated to repair and upgrade slopes, drains and ditches in local authority areas nationwide. - Bernama
