Cabinet agrees in principle to cooperate with Vietnam to explore maritime resources, says Home Minister

PUTRAJAYA: The Cabinet has agreed in principle to form a committee to oversee possible cooperation between Malaysia and Vietnam in exploring maritime resources, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.

The Home Minister said this follows the official visit by General Secretary of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of Vietnam, To Lam recently.

"The committee will involve the Home Ministry, the Agriculture Ministry and other relevant agencies.

"In principle, we intend to find the best model to enable both countries to explore maritime resources and share their expertise on the matter.

"We can share experiences and technology on deep sea fishing and conduct joint operations to ensure mutual benefits for both parties," he told a press conference after attending the ministry monthly assembly on Thursday (Dec 12).
