Sponsor apologises for upside-down flag on Zii Jia's jersey

PETALING JAYA: A shirt sponsor has apologised for an upside-down national flag on the jersey national badminton player Lee Zii Jia was wearing at the HSBC BWF World Tour Finals.

In a statement on X on Wednesday (Dec 11), sponsors Victor Malaysia said the error does not reflect their deep respect for Malaysia, its national symbols, or the pride and honour of representing the nation on the international stage.

"The Malaysian flag embodies unity and identity, and we deeply regret any unintended disrespect caused by this oversight.

"We sincerely apologise to all Malaysian badminton fans and Lee Zii Jia for the error.

"We are conducting a thorough review of our processes to ensure that such errors do not occur in the future," it said.

Zii Jia was seen wearing the jersey in his Group A opening match as he defeated Taiwan's Chou Tien Chen 21-13, 21-15.
