Cops to summon podcast organiser over drug trafficking claims near Sentul IPD

KUALA LUMPUR: Police will summon the organiser of a podcast over allegations of drug trafficking near the Sentul district police headquarters raised in the programme.

Kuala Lumpur police chief Comm Datuk Fadil Marsus said police had recorded statements from four individuals and would refer the case to the prosecution soon.

"The case is being investigated under Section 505 of the Penal Code and Section 233 of the Communications and Multimedia Act 1998.

"We have recorded four statements so far. We will also summon the podcast organiser and refer the case to the prosecution as soon as possible," he told reporters after the Taman Angkat Amanita programme at PPR Laksamana, Jalan Peel, here on Saturday (Oct 24).

Comm Fadil said podcast content should be shared responsibly to avoid misleading the public, creating negative perceptions of the police or causing public alarm.

On Oct 20, Sentul OCPD Asst Comm Anuar Bakri Abdul Salam said police would record a former journalist's statement over the allegations.

The investigation followed a police report by the chairman of the Marathadi Madurai Veeran Temple in Kuala Lumpur, who strongly denied the allegations made in the video.

Police later confirmed that the claims referred to an incident on July 12, 2016, which was recounted by a podcast guest based on his experience as a journalist about 10 years ago.

The guest had claimed to have monitored alleged drug trafficking at an abandoned place of worship near a police station in Sentul for three to four days.
