KULAI: The Home Ministry is leaving decisions on the position of Malaysian Border Control and Protection Agency (AKPS) director-general to top public service officials, says Datuk Seri Saifuddin Nasution Ismail.
The Home Minister said the ministry’s secretary-general and Chief Secretary to the Government are handling the matter in accordance with standard civil service regulations.
“This is because the public service has established regulations to deal with such situations,” Saifuddin told a press conference on Saturday (Oct 24) following the launch of the National Registration Department’s (NRD) 78th National Registration Day, Kampung Angkat Madani, and Sekolah Angkat Madani initiatives in Kampung Melayu Sedenak.
Saifuddin was responding to queries about Datuk Seri Mohd Shuhaily Mohd Zainy's status following his court appearance earlier in the week.
On Wednesday (Oct 21), Mohd Shuhaily pleaded not guilty at the Sepang Magistrate’s Court to two charges of voluntarily causing hurt to two police personnel, Lance Corporal Mohamad Faiz Saman, 40, and Lance Corporal Muhammad Ekmal Sofwan Dirman, 25, near Counter J at Kuala Lumpur International Airport (KLIA) Terminal 1 on Sept 28.
The charges were framed under Section 323 of the Penal Code, which carries a maximum penalty of one year’s imprisonment, a fine of up to RM2,000, or both, upon conviction.
