KOTA BARU: Kota Baru MP Datuk Seri Takiyuddin Hassan has refused to withdraw a controversial remark made during a previous Dewan Rakyat sitting, instead proposing mediation with Speaker Tan Sri Johari Abdul.
"I will not withdraw it (my statement). Instead, I have written to the Speaker proposing that mediation be held," he said.
According to Sinar Harian, Takiyuddin said the proposal had been sent to and received by Johari, and he was awaiting a response on whether it would be accepted.

"During mediation, the Speaker can call up both (Jelutong MP) RSN Rayer and me to discuss and try to resolve the matter," he said at a press conference after the Himpunan and Munajat Penyatuan Ummah (Himpak) programme here on Saturday (Oct 24).
Takiyuddin added that he did not rule out the possibility of the matter being referred to Parliament's Committee of Privileges if mediation was not held.
It was previously reported that a heated exchange took place between government and Opposition MPs over the use of the word "munafik" (hypocrite) during the Budget 2027 debate, allegedly in reference to Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.
RSN Rayer (PH-Jelutong) then invoked Standing Order 36(1), objecting to the use of the term.

Takiyuddin was given until Thursday (Oct 22) to withdraw the remarks either in the House or in writing.
“If the withdrawal does not take place, Jelutong may proceed with a motion,” Johari said.
