Melaka CM named state LHDN icon

MELAKA: Datuk Seri Ab Rauf Yusoh has been appointed as an icon for the Melaka Inland Revenue Board (LHDN).

Melaka LHDN director Shahriz Ramli said several factors had been taken into consideration before appointing the Melaka Chief Minister as an icon including for attracting vast numbers of investors to the state that led to increased revenues in various business sectors.

"The recognition has been conferred on the Chief Minister for his contribution in generating revenue and economic sustainability for the state, subsequently ensuring the country's tax collection targets are being met," he said after Abd Rauf attended the "Ramah Mesra" event at the LHDN office in Ayer Keroh here on Wed (Dec 4).

Shahriz said the Chief Minister's contributions to the state’s tourism industry and escalating the development of small and medium industries in the state were also taken into consideration before a decision was made on the appointment.

"The Chief Minister is also active in social media platforms and considered an online influencer who can indirectly help LHDN to spread awareness on improving tax compliance and responsibility to pay their taxes," he said, adding that Ab Rauf is the first individual in the state to be appointed as an icon.

Shahriz said Ab Rauf has also had a close working relationship with LHDN and played a pivotal role in improving the financial management and taxation issues of the state government.
