Floods: Situation in Kedah improving


ALOR SETAR: The flood situation is showing signs of improvement in Kedah with the number of evacuees dropping to 6,871 from 2,077 families as of 4pm on Tuesday (Dec 3).

At 8am, the figure stood at 7,206 victims from 2,185 families.

At the peak of the floods, a total of 9,129 victims from 2,787 families were reported at noon on Sunday (Dec 1), according to the Kedah Civil Defence Force (APM).

The victims are currently seeking shelter at 33 temporary relief centres in five districts.

Kota Setar remains the worst-hit district with 4,312 victims in 18 centres.

Meanwhile, the body of 49-year-old security guard Ismail Hashim, who fell into a fast-flowing river while setting up a net in Kampung Paya Parit Lateh near Jitra on Sunday, has been found.

Rescuers found his body along the riverbank about 1.5km from where he was last seen, at 7.50am on Tuesday.
