Dive master and student missing off Redang Island

KUALA NERUS: Two divers have gone missing at Pasir Akar Marine Park off Pulau Redang near here.

Kuala Terengganu OCPD Asst Comm Azli Mohd Noor said the missing divers are a 31-year-old man from Kajang, Selangor, and a 42-year-old Chinese national.

He said police received a report about the incident at about 12.45pm on Saturday (March 14).

"A boat from the Terengganu Fisheries Department with seven police rescue divers and the Marine Park, were deployed to conduct a search at 2pm.

"The operation was also assisted by seven volunteers from a resort using two boats. It is understood that one of the divers is a dive master while the other is a student," he said on Saturday.

Azli said the search operation also covered surrounding areas, including Pulau Bidong, Pulau Geluk and Pulau Tengkorak.

However, he said the operation had to be suspended at 6pm due to rough sea conditions, and would resume the next morning. – Bernama
