Floods: Channel aid through affected areas' elected reps for greater efficiency, says Bersatu MP

KUALA LUMPUR: Better coordination is needed in channelling aid to flood victims through the elected representative of each affected area, says Machang MP Wan Ahmad Fayhsal Wan Ahmad Kamal.

He said this was important to reduce wastage and improve delivery so that flood victims would receive the aid.

“We appeal to the Prime Minister, who is also the Finance Minister, to have compassion and distribute flood aid directly through the elected representatives,” he told a press conference at the Parliament building on Tuesday (Dec 3).

The Bersatu supreme council member added that many Kelantan residents had experienced total losses as a result of the recent floods, and were in urgent need of aid.

"At times, aid is good because we want visibility and mileage. However, when we give excessive supplies like food, it ends up being wasted.

“So I urge all parties, including the government, to contact us (the elected representatives). If we are not directly involved, I think a lot of resources that could help the people will be wasted," he said.

Earlier it was reported that the number of flood evacuees in Pahang, Johor and parts of Perak continues to rise with another flood-related death recorded as of noon on Tuesday, according to the National Disaster Management Agency.
