Floods force 348 out of homes in Perak

IPOH: A total of 348 people from 118 families were evacuated as of Thuesday (June 25) morning in the districts of Kampar and Larut, Matang and Selama in Perak, following floods which began late Wednesday (June 24) afternoon.

The State Disaster Management Committee secretariat said 297 people from 102 families were placed at four relief centres opened since Wednesday, namely Dewan Perdana Trong, Dewan Terbuka Masjid Al-Wusta, SK Changkat Ibol and SK Matang Gelugor.

It said 51 people from 16 families were housed at the Dewan Bandaran Gopeng in Kampar, where they have been since June 20 after their homes in Kampung Ulu Geruntum, Kuala Razila were cut off following a collapsed bridge caused by a water surge.

Meanwhile, the Perak Drainage and Irrigation Department said the level of Sungai Slim in Slim River was at the danger point of 26.38m.

The Malaysian Meteorological Department has also forecast thunderstorms and rain in the afternoon and evening in five districts, namely Hulu Perak, Kuala Kangsar, Kinta, Kampar and Batang Padang. - Bernama
