A COUPLE in India got married by exchanging motorbike helmets instead of the usual garlands, Makkal Osai reported.

During their wedding last week in the state of Chhattisgarh, the groom, known only as Prenthiran, and his bride Jothi Sahu, had initially exchanged rings.

Later, the groom spoke to the guests about how his father died two years ago in an accident while riding a motorbike without a helmet.

The death of his father was a great loss in his life, Prenthiran said.

As such, he urged everyone to wear a helmet while riding their machine.

Then the couple symbolically exchanged helmets to complete their wedding ceremony.

Prenthiran said he decided to incorporate the gesture into the ceremony in the hope that it would always remind their relatives and friends to be safe while riding their motorbikes.
