PM accorded official welcome at Turkmenistan Presidential Palace

ASHGABAT: Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim was accorded an official welcome ceremony at the Turkmenistan Presidential Palace here on Friday (June 19), marking his first official visit to the Central Asian country since taking office.

Upon arrival, the Prime Minister was received by Turkmenistan President Serdar Berdimuhamedov and a guard of honour, as the national anthems of Malaysia and Turkmenistan were played in tribute.

Anwar was then introduced to the Turkmenistan Cabinet ministers and senior government officials, after which he introduced the Malaysian delegation to Berdimuhamedov.

Both leaders then proceeded to a four-eyed meeting before continuing with a bilateral meeting to discuss matters of mutual interest and enhance both countries' cooperation.

The two-day visit from Thursday (June 18) is Anwar’s first official trip to Turkmenistan since becoming Malaysia’s 10th Prime Minister in November 2022 and comes at the invitation of the Turkmenistan President. – Bernama
