Leave frozen, Cabinet members told to help victims


PUTRAJAYA: Leave for all Cabinet ministers has been frozen due to the current flood situation in the country, says Prime Minister Datuk Seri Anwar Ibrahim.

He said all ministers and their deputies have been instructed to go to the flood-hit areas to provide necessary assistance.

“All ministers have been told to go to the ground now. Yes, leave has been frozen for them,” he said when asked whether the leave for his Cabinet members would be frozen due to the flood situation.

Anwar was met after performing Friday prayers at Surau Pudina, Precinct 17 here yesterday, Bernama reported.

The flood situation worsened in several states yesterday, causing the number of flood victims to increase sharply.

In Kedah, there were 5,619 victims displaced across Kubang Pasu, Padang Terap, Kota Setar, Sik and Pokok Sena.

The affected states are Kelantan, Terengganu, Kedah, Negri Sembilan, Perlis, Selangor, Melaka, Perak and Johor.

According to the Social Welfare Department InfobencanaJKM website, the number of flood evacuees nationwide rose to 97,454 as at 7.40pm yesterday, with 603 flood relief centres opened.
