A CONVICTED murderer in China’s Sichuan province sparked controversy by celebrating his release from prison with firecrackers and holding a banquet just 10m away from the victim’s house, reported Sin Chew Daily.

The murder victim’s son, known only by his surname Xiang, shared footage of the shindig online, saying that it forced his family to relive their father’s death.

It was reported that when Xiang was 15, his neighbour killed his father and was later incarcerated for 20 years.

The ex-jailbird celebrated his recent release earlier this month by rolling out red carpets and holding an 18-table banquet very close to the scene of crime.

While celebrating one’s release from prison was not a crime, the proximity of the event appeared to provoke the victim’s family, said Yang Wei, a lawyer from the Henan Zhenyu Law Firm.

He added that the ex-convict could be charged with disrupting the social order with his celebration.

On the decades-long feud between the two families, Yang said the former convict had already suffered the consequences of his action in the eyes of the law by completing his 20-year jail sentence.

The best the victim’s family could do is keep a distance and avoid conflict, the lawyer advised.

> University students in China are pooling their money to book hotel rooms in order to use their industrial-grade washers and dryers, reported China Press.

In anticipation of winter, undergraduates are scrambling to clean their down jackets.

However, many student dormitories do not have washers and dryers and taking a jacket to the laundromat would cost around 100 yuan (RM62).

A group of undergraduates stumbled upon a more cost-effective way of cleaning their winter garments and shared the tip on social media.

Apparently, many hotels allow guests to use their industrial-grade laundry machines.

One of the students found that by spending just 80 yuan (RM49) to rent a hotel room for an hour, he was able to get eight jackets washed.

And as he waited for the cleaning and spinning to be completed, he watched TV dramas in his hotel room to kill time.

Similar guides began popping up on Xiaohongshu, where Internet users would share the best hotels in which to do their winter laundry.
