THE Indian community in Selangor is questioning the status of the RM5mil allocation for Tamil schools which was announced last year by the state government, Malaysia Nanban reported.
The allocation to help 97 Tamil schools was part of RM26.6mil set aside for schools in Selangor under Budget 2025.
MIC information chief L. Sivasubramaniam said the allocation was mentioned by Selangor Mentri Besar Datuk Seri Amirudin Shari in his Deepavali greeting to the community in October 2025.
However, Sivasubramaniam claimed that they had yet to see the funds being used for Tamil schools here, some of which had leaking roofs, while computer rooms and toilets also required urgent repairs.
He also said the allocation would go a long way towards addressing the needs of the 34,000 Tamil school students in Selangor, 80% of whom, according to statistics, are from disadvantaged families.
